ActiveLearn is a new approach to online student learning - providing a unique, supportive environment that activates learning and encourages students to learn by doing.
It’s a far cry from the staple school tool kit of pencils, rubbers, rulers and a blackboard -today’s teachers and students are becoming increasingly likely to use virtual classrooms as they prove to hugely inspire and motivate the next generation.
ActiveLearn – which is designed to motivate and promote online learning for 14-16-year-olds whilst providing a seamless and inspiring user experience to both students and teachers - has now gone live and initial feedback has been excellent.
The Orange Bus team used their expertise in the field of user experience to make the learning platform such a success. Users of this site are both teachers and students - two very different audience types to satisfy.
In-depth research shows students want cleaner designs, interactivity and, crucially, a language which doesn’t appear to preach too much. Teachers, on the other hand, prefer functionality and are less concerned about design – it’s much more about clarity and ease of use for them.
The team worked in close collaboration with Pearson from the very beginning to help build a team-wide understanding of the projects goals, the audience and the areas for development. The online learning platform currently offers help for GCSE courses but the project will soon be expanded to include further learning materials from both KS3 and A levels.
