Julian Speaking at Design Event 09

Pecha Kucha Nights are a global concept, born in Japan, they follow a dynamic structure – each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds – giving a total of 6 minutes 40 seconds for each speaker before the floor moves on.

Julian speaking at the Design Event 09 Pecha Kucha NightI was delighted to be asked to speak at this years Design Event 09 Pecha Kucha night, being awarded the final slot, which I wasn't sure was a good thing (people will have had more to drink) or a bad thing (people will have had more to drink...)!

If you've never had the pleasure of attending a Pecha Kucha night I would urge you to do so if you get the chance.  The format ensures speakers are on their toes and keeps the evening fast paced and interesting - there just isn't enough time to be boring!

At the Newcastle Design Event evening we had a real variety of speakers, with Stuart Varrall (Fluid Pixel Studio), Miles Thurlow & Paul Moss (Workplace Gallery) and Nick James (James Design/ Mushroom Works) being my personal faves.

My own 6 minutes and 40 seconds went well, I'd gambled on a reasonable smattering of humour and that seemed to work (the drink element perhaps helped me there).  It really is a lightening format and no matter how well you've prepared the pace is really tough to keep up!  Great fun though and I hope to see and do more of this in the future.

Videos will be online very soon, photo's can be found here.
