Project Overview

What we did

 Orange Bus worked with Eaga, a leading outsourcer of green technology, to create The Hub, a social intranet designed to enrich the working lives of the Eaga workforce. The key challenges of the project were understanding the diversity of the employees, the complexity of the organisational structure and how to ensure the intranet could serve the needs of all audiences. It was also vital to integrate seamlessly with multiple data sources to ensure that user information was correct and in line with the latest HR data. Orange Bus undertook stakeholder interviews with a cross-section of prospective users, including field workers, engineers and office based employees to understand their needs, goals and motivation for engaging with the intranet. The outcomes of the interviews and of an internal workshop with key members of the business led to a detailed set of requirements for the project. The final solution was based on the Drupal Commons software which enables businesses to adopt key elements from the social web to establish a vibrant, interactive and empowered internal community. Users are now able to create their own personalised dashboard, write blogs, share documents, set up their own social groups, search for contacts, import external news feeds and much more.
