the client's brief

Generator created a tender document outlining their key requirements, including a coordinated and integrated site displaying their programme of work, news items, diary of events and forthcoming projects with links to associated websites. Also required were:  

• a searchable mailing list / database
• an automated subscription facility that directly updates the mailing list 
• mailing list management & broadcasting system for the online newsletter
• streaming media (video/music/interviews) facility
• an online learning environment
• RSS music news-feeds and information packs 
• Content Management System. 

Finally, running in parallel and fully integrated into any client correspondence they Generator required a Client Management System enabling remote access to all client information, project management and service delivery.

our approach

Once the project team at Generator wisely chose Orange Bus after a thorough tendering process, our first task was to get to grips with the scale of the task at hand.  generator are involved in a huge and varied program of work with vast amounts of content available to us across each area.  User Experience Design was a key part of the early stages, working with the team at Generator to work out how best to signpost visitors to the site to ensure they can find what they need as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Once the UX was complete, we moved onto wire framing, trying out different layouts before applying any fancy graphics to ensure we had complete control and flexibility.  Only after the wireframes were finalised and the UX design complete did we move to create the visiual design, working within Generators brand guidelines and coming up with a number of different approaches for their consideration.

The entire process has been hugely enjoyable for everyone at Orange Bus involved, we're delighted with the finished website and so are Generator!
